ThinkPad T23

#1 Post by armyvet207 » Sun Jun 01, 2008 5:22 pm

I bought a used T23 laptop and have been having problems getting this laptop to boot up and run. I bought a new AC adapter new hard drive, cmos battery and memory for this laptop. When I plug in the ac adapter the green light blinks fast and does nothing at all if I hold down the power button when pluging in the ac adapter it lights up and green and goes to orange in color but, does not turn on the system. It doesn't charge my battery it does nothing. With the battery in I do hear a buzzing sound coming from the rear. One day it did start to turn on and then stopped. What can it be? I really need help getting this running.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you hear the fan pulsating? The lights that you describe are only the battery charge indicator. You might be experiencing the "loose inductor syndrome". Look at the sticky for pulsing fan at the top of this section.

Thanks alot for answering my post and refering me to the Sticky Post. I opened up my computer case alittle by taking out the keyboard cause when I would move the case side to side and it fast motion I would hear something moving around and after reading that post I founf this little silver and black piece just sitting in reach I took it out and placed it in a bag so I don't loose it I guess from what you say it is the inductor. After reading Stickys and looking at it his pictures that he provided that is what mine is. IS this an easy fix and can someone help me by providing a manual of taking this laptop apart so I can fix it. I just don't want to try taking it apart and chance it I want to know how step by step I am pretty good a soldering. Any help on this matter would be great thats and I am so glad there is a forum like this out there. I just signed up today after seeing this Forum. Seems like these Inductors are a major pain in the you know what?

Check all the power inductors while in there.
Put a little pressure on them and see if there are others that will come loose.
As I recall it, there should be a total of 6 inductors. 4 on the top side, 2 on the bottom side.
Should be an easy fix. It was for me. Here.
