My T23 is not booting. Any ideas?
My trusty T23 isn't booting. It accesses the HD, the fan turns on but nothing more, except every tenth boot or so, the "IBM" page appears followed by 0211 keyboard error, press F1 for setup. (F1 doesn't work.)
I reseated the keyboard to no avail.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
David

If it doesn't boot, there's probably no chance that PC Doctor will run
.
DavidNY, disconnect all of the hardware that you can and just leave a single memory module installed. This means the hard drive, MiniPCI card, ethernet card, Ultrabay device, PCMCIA card(s), anything plugged into the USB ports, etc. Then see if the system can boot and access the BIOS page (holding down the F1 key). If the system then continues to boot normally, then add in one piece of hardware and repeat the boot attempts. If it doesn't boot with all of the hardware removed, then you could have a motherboard or keyboard problem.
You should also try removing ALL memory and see if you get the 1-3-3-1 beep code. If you don't get that, then there's probably a major problem with the motherboard. If you only have a single memory module, then you should try borrowing a known good PC133 module or testing your module in another PC133 system.

When in PC Doctor, try all individual keys repeatedly. You may have a stuck key!

OK...
I pulled everything (WiFi, etc), including the memory. No love. F1 is not happening.
I reinstalled everything including the memory. *I get a 1-3-3-1 beep code for the first time.
I have a Kingmax 512 and a Crucial 256 in there.
If I have only the 512 installed, I get the beep code.
If I have only the 256, or both cards installed, I get nothing (except for the one time, as noted above*)
According to the beep code, there may be something amiss with the 512, so I pulled it, though the computer is still not a happy camper.
On those blue moon occasions when I get the IBM screen, F1 doesn't do anything.

Time to take the mobo out and check all the inductors.
These are the big square 'blobs' on both sides, plus the rectangular one top left near the CPU.
Stick your nail under them and try to pry them off. If they do come off, resolder them.

Best document for that would be the Hardware Maintenance Manual:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 39298.html
That link is the overall index for the Thinkpads. All of the T2x systems are in here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... UYM3F.html
You will need Adobe Acrobat (or similar; Foxit Reader works great) to view the file.

To verify that it isnt the keyboard preventing booting try booting with the keyboard completely removed.
You will need the port replicator to be able to do this.

Where to begin......
390e x1 390X 390X,700mhz
1 x T20 + about 8 untested for spares
4 X T23 + 6 breaking for parts
1 X T23 with Samsung 840 SSD and XP Great combination !
AND NOW....3 X T60s and 3 x T61s

They would probably have used the long brown screws instead of the (shorter) silver colored screws that hold the NIC card in place.rkawakami wrote:In that case it appears that the keyboard was damaged by a too-long screw.
