Welcome to our Forum, albeit for such a sad reason.

That's an original way to make toast! :(
What is the voltage/amperage of your printer's PSU?
By the sound of it, you'll probably need all new 'guts' for your T23.
Whatever fuse(s) was there, did not 'trip' fast enough.
Your HD may also need to be replaced, even if it is still working.
The smoke could have come from anywhere, but perhaps you could open it up and have a look? Let us know what you see.

Unless you are able to test and swap out all the necessary parts, it may be more practical to look for another laptop.
If you want another T23, I happen to have one for sale in our Market Forum http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=62851

Your hard drive should be fine. It most likely just damaged your systemboard, and possibly your ram.

Generally speaking, once some of the "magic smoke" has been released from any of the components inside a piece of electronics gear, said system does not operate 100% properly any more. The T23's DC power jack is supposed to be held in place by a screw located on the bottom side of the system. Assuming you can find a screw of the proper length and thread size (M2.5 x 4.5), that should solve your loose jack.

You could temporarily take the screw from the mouse port, about 1" to the right of the power jack, and put it in at the bottom under the jack.
They are the same size.

Forum member LPC has a 512 MB stick for $30 shipped in the Marketplace now. I would jump on that.

You may want to consider starting a new thread for each new problem, or should I just change the name of this thread to TOOLSLO'S PROBLEMS' , and we'll just use it for the next 10 years :).
