T20 : Windows 2K SP4 : Screen Saver freezes after long idle

#1 Post by gytzsgb » Sat Jun 14, 2008 6:19 am

Hardware: T20 Windows 2K SP4 Model 2647-95U

Microsoft Screensaver in Windows 2000 SP4 freezes after idling for a long time.

Do I need to update the BIOS or Display Driver. Seems like I had to do it once before a long time ago. I have had this laptop now since October 2000 and have not had to update BIOS or Display Driver since I did it after about 3 months of purchase.

Instead of a screen saver, try switching off the LCD after idling xx minutes (in BIOS and/or in the Display properties).

screen savers were useful for CRT monitors but for LCDs it's best just to turn them off like RBS said.

and since win2k has no real interesting screen savers you'll not be missing much. the version i'm using has no screen savers at all :D

Could you please clarify: is the switching off of the LCD in lieu of a screen saver ? And will the LCD come back on when keys are pressed ?

yes and yes.

BTW, a frozen screensaver in win2k is something that just seems to happen with age as the OS install gets loaded down with crap. i don't think there is anything to worry about or upgrade unless you want to reinstall windows, something that doesn't really need to be done unless it's so bogged down that you're noticing a significant reduction in speed.
