T30 hard disk cushion question

#1 Post by madkat » Mon Jun 23, 2008 4:48 am

Browsing the service manual for the T30 (planning a base cover exchange) i noticed something that i've later found out to be a "cushion" - presumably made of some sort of rubber - for the hdd.
Mine doesn't have such a thing, and i don't have any idea even how it looks like... maybe to get or manufacture one (provided it doesn't interfere too much with the drive's cooling
So - if anyone has a picture or any details about this ...
thanks
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T

How's this? http://www-132.ibm.com/content/product_ ... US/hdd.jpg

It's no more than a hollow rubber half-ball, filled with air.
Pretty useless actually.

no, not that... that's the shock absorber... i have it, and you're right, it's kind of useless
the thing i'm talking about is inside the laptop - between the hard disk and the chassis - attached somehow to the hdd...
i could be wrog though...

from the pictures in the manual it looks kind of like in teh picture (picture taken from an ad on this site

That's what people call the hard disk caddy.
It protects the electronics at the underside of the HD, but has no shock absorbing function. You attach the HD cover over the screws that hold the caddy onto the HD.
Without the caddy, the HD fits too loose in the HD slot, and may cause bad functioning of the HD.
