T23
Hello, I'm setting up a IBM T23 thinkpad for a client of mine with a full install of windows 98se, but I discovered that this model does not only got the built in IBM wireless B but also the secure chip. Was the security chip eve compatible with windows 9x even these were the last laptops to have a option of have 98se fully installed on them?
In worst case scenario could I take out the security chip and will the laptop still perform?

AFAIK that chip has no influence on which OS you put in there. With or without, it runs the same. Just don't install an OS, and THEN take the chip out.
Since you can put in 2x 512MB = 1GB RAM, I'm amazed you don't put in XP. With a set of XP recovery disks you don't even need a COA technically.
PM me if interested.

Go with at least 2kPro.
I have had my T23 on 2kPro and XP Pro
2kPro is blazing fast, and very secure
XP Pro is plenty fast with only 512 memory
You can get the COA for $40.00 on sleezebay for 2kPro
But check with RBS for the XP Recovery disk, probably the easiest install I have ever done
My 2 cents

W98 will work fine on a T23. But I have never had much luck getting wifi to work reliably on one. It seems to depend heavily on the W98 drivers and a good configuration utility.
I have never tried the IBM internal wifi card on W98 so cannot say if this will be ok or no.
Good luck with the instal.

Where to begin......
390e x1 390X 390X,700mhz
1 x T20 + about 8 untested for spares
4 X T23 + 6 breaking for parts
1 X T23 with Samsung 840 SSD and XP Great combination !
AND NOW....3 X T60s and 3 x T61s

I've had win2k issues on two machines and am not sure why. virus' or something faulty with the 2K installations. anyway,
XP seems to run real well with drivers for wireless B linksys card and any updates from Levono.
Good Luck
