New S3 Video Drivers!!

#1 Post by flashstar » Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:13 pm

I was just checking for the 4.9 Chrometal drivers for my T23 so that Flash would run a bit better when I noticed that they had 3DP 8.01 drivers. These are from January of this year. They're also compatible with the SuperSavage chip. Here's a link:

I've noticed a big improvement from the stock drivers. Maybe someone here could compare these to the 4.9 Chrometal drivers.

Btw, I'm running Vista. I had to do a manual driver update but the drivers work fine.

I've seen the Chrometal drivers discussed in past topics here, but never tried it. I was concerned about "going back" to the current driver if the Chrometal didn't work.

Will this latest driver work in the T20, T21, T22 models?

The only video problem I have noticed on my T21 is with Google Earth. The map controls on the right side of the screen do not display properly (as compared to my desktop display), but I rarely use those controls anyway.

Is the risk worth it? What will I gain or lose? You know - "if its not broke, don't fix it."

To me it was worth it. You get about a 30% boost in flash video speed (which is sweet). Drivers shouldn't cause any major long term issues. The worse thing that will happen is that you will need to log into safe mode in order to revert the drivers.
