lcd assembly and installation on t30 (2366, 2367) thinkpad
Can anyone tell me(I already examined hardware manual for t30 thinkpad) how to remove complete lcd assembly for t30 thinkpad?
(I want to remove the whole lcd assembly from one t30(includiing hinges and video cable) and place that in same model 2nd t30 laptop.
Basically, need to know where video connector and cable are(I already have keyboard removed, but can't find video connector for lcd)
I have done this about 20 times w dell laptops, but can't seem to find a tutorial except for manual which is a little confusing to me(forgive me please)
Also if you can tell me which screws to remove from back of unit, and elsewhere to remove old complete lcd assembly and replace it with a new replacement.
Thank you very much, have a great weekend/holiday!

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
If you have the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T30 (92P1840), then page 94 describes the procedure to remove the LCD assembly. Note that there's a list of items to remove before getting to the LCD. I don't have any direct experience with the T30 but based upon my history with the T23, the only ones you really need to remove are the main battery and AC adapter (mostly for safety), antennas from the MiniPCI card (if any), the keyboard, the keyboard bezel and hinge cover. There's four screws on the back panel under the oval-shaped plastic covers and there's two screws near the hinges which bolt down into the base.
The LCD ribbon cable connector is shown on page 95. I would assume that you have to have the keyboard bezel removed in order to pull the LCD assembly away from the base.

thanks everybody for your quick reply!
checked out the page suggested, can't really see video connector; where is it in relation to keyboard connector(my keyboard has been removed)? Is the video connector hidden behind something, can't seem to view it on the page suggested. Thank you.

First, let's make sure we are on the same page here
....
- Do you have a copy of the T30 HMM dated February 2003 (see link: here)?
- Page numbers that I am referring to are the ones printed at the bottom of the image of the printed page, NOT the page number that Adobe Acrobat shows in the status bar (i.e., 98 of 168)
- Assuming these things are being used, page 95 shows what I believe to be the LCD ribbon cable connector. Again, you may have to remove the keyboard bezel in order to free this connector.
- It looks to me that the LCD ribbon cable is located just "above" (i.e., towards the back of the laptop) the keyboard connector.

The LCD cable is a flat cable of about 1-1/2" wide, coming out of the bottom of the LCD.
It's item #3 on this picture:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 42348.html
After you take the keyboard off, there may be a black foil in the bottom.
Take that out as well if there, as it would cover the LCD cable.
The LCD connector you will find to the right of the CPU fan.

still need help!!
I've got almost everything out, the left side of the lcd unit as I am looking at it like when using this laptop: the hinge and lcd are sticking out; I can pull this side out. On the right side though, there is large chrome colored piece with a black plastic circle over it w 4 'arms' , 2 on each side; this is the problem: I can't seem to find the screw holding the right side of the lcd hinge into the unit because this piece I described is covering the place where I would find and unscrew the right hinge. Looked at actual page 95 and up, but I must have missed a screw somwhere, as that chrome piece is covering the whole rt area. Is it possible that I have to remove the entire palm rest(the whole area surrounding the touchpad where the ibm logo is on it as well? Can't seem to find out how to get to the final portion of accessing the right portion near lcd as this piece is covering it. If you want, I can take good pics, but how would I upload them to this site? Well everyone, thanks for your help, hope you can assist me in this 'last'? step?
Robert

Thank You!
Thanks everybody especially realblackstuff (last post) who indicated that I needed to remove palmrest as well! (nobody else instructed me to do so)
As soon as palmrest was removed, I was able to get complete access to upper right area to remove remaining right screw under lcd panel.
Without palmrest removal, this would be inpossible-
Thanks everybody, may need your help in future.
Have a good one.

Re: Thank You!
For your future reference, "keyboard bezel" (as it is described in the HMM) = "palmrest". I mentioned removing this item twicesmith07031 wrote:Thanks everybody especially realblackstuff (last post) who indicated that I needed to remove palmrest as well! (nobody else instructed me to do so)
