t20 locks up when booting???

I have a t20 upgraded to 900mhz, win xp sp2. The problem is when booting up the hard drive will make a wierd noise and then freeze, power light on but thats it. I can boot into safe mode without any freezing at all. This just started happening, iwas having over heating problems, install NHC and all was well for quite some time, now it freezes up radomly while booting up. I ran pc doctor and all tests passed, ran a fitness test for the hard drive, it also passed. I tried the mscofig utility in xp using selective start up and no go. I think it something to do with xp or software but don`t know where to start ?? . Any help would be great!!.
