T30: Installing new 160 gb Hard Drive

#1 Post by KarMar7 » Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:29 pm

I just purchased a brand new 160gb Seagate IDE ATA/100 Drive for my T30.

It came with no instructions, I don't want to bring it to a professional.

When inserted the drive in, it didn't go past the first screen.

Someone please help and tell me what I have to do to get it working!!

You have at least two options:
1. Install the new OS from scratch using the original recovery disks. Here's a description of how to do it: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=52133
2. Clone your existing hard drive to the new one. Here's how: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=27721

One thing you may want to make sure before you begin is that you have the latest bios installed for your machine and made a backup of the important data on your existing hard drive.
