T30 Missing Keyboard

#1 Post by Malefickus » Sat Jul 19, 2008 9:37 pm

I have a Thinkpad T30 that is missing a keyboard. I have the powersupply and everything else. This was a working laptop at one time, but the keyboard became damaged, and is now missing after removal.

I have an external keyboard and mouse that i can use with the system, but I am baffled as to if there is any way that I can power it on. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you will need a dock.

I am looking to hopefully accomplish this with what I have rather than buying parts. If I were to buy any parts, I would buy the keyboard if I really needed it, but am trying to avoid that.

In theory you could connect a switch to the correct pins on the keyboard connector on the motherboard, and effectively simulate a power button. You will find that the connector is small and doing this is not easy. In practice, it will be much faster to get a used keyboard off ebay.

I second the thought...you can probably get a used T30 keyboard for $15 or so...

If you don't figure out the solution, drop me a PM, I know I have one somewhere, but that will take digging...

I've found a replicator on eBay for $1.49 guaranteed to be working. Still have yet to buy it, but hopefully that'll do what I want it to when I purchase it.

Thanks for the tip about the dock/port replicator!

If it works, then you're all set.
