Funky T23 - Deadzo - NO Power
Funky T23 - Deadzo - NO Power
I have a T23 4u5 that does not power up with ac or battery. I have several T23 and have read many articles but can't find one that relates.
I have pulled all daughter boards, drives, swapped know good memory, EVERTHING!
The only thing that happens is the battery light flashes once when plugging in ac. That's IT!
I checked DC jack, F12 fuse, still no luck.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
Sorry it's not under the best of circumstances
. If you have checked the F12 fuse then that should only cover the main battery. There's another fuse located next to the white connector that the DC jack plugs into. It's labeled F2 and it's about 1/4 the size of the F12 fuse. As you have said that the battery LED flashes when the AC adapter is connected, then that fuse is probably good but it can't hurt to check it.
There's many other parts in the power circuitry that can fail and result in this type of problem. If you are sure that the AC adapter works properly with another Thinkpad and the battery is charged enough to run the system, then about the only solution is to replace the motherboard. Isolating the defective component (without the help of the appropriate circuit schematics) and replacing it (hard to do with surface mounted parts) would be very challenging.

Ray,
Thanks for your response. Sometimes the truth hurts!
I was afraid someone would break the bad news.
I'll check the fuse you mentioned and let you know the outcome.
Thanks again!
Peter
BTW - I picked up this little "gem" on Ebay (was a little misled - go figure), do you know where I could pickup a relativley inexpensive MB from a reliable source?

Just to be absolutely certain: you don't have the fan audibly pulse on for a fraction of a second?paeg2005 wrote: The only thing that happens is the battery light flashes once when plugging in ac. That's IT!

Alas, that's bad news; a pulse of the fan would be a well-known failure mode in the T23 that is actually user-repairable (with a fairly high stress coefficient). I'm not a hardware guru, but as other replies have suggested your machine might be pining for the fjords without a MB transplant.paeg2005 wrote:Negative. Not a chirp!
Does that mean good news?
