T30 CPU upgrade problem

#1 Post by gonzo_1269 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 11:14 am

I upgraded the cpu on my T30 to a 2.4 processor.

The problem is that the bios (up to date 2.10 and 1.07) shows that it is running at 1.8. Windows "says" that it sees the processor as a 2.4, but cpuid also shows that it is running at 1.8.

Any thoughts or ideas ??

If you run it with both a full battery and AC, you should check the BIOS settings, that it runs at max. speed when on AC.
Also check the Power settings in the Screen Saver section.
Sounds like Speedstep is throttling it down.

I checked the BIOS with AC and a full battery, on the config it is set to max performance for AC, will need to double check the settings for battery.

I thought that I had been able to disable the Speedstep, but I will double check based off of your suggestions.

the cpu speed setting in BIOS override all OS speed settings
set the "custom" settings in BIOS - ant then the windows power management

btw - what processor did you have before?
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T

Bios has been set to custom, disabled all that I could on the power management.

Old processor -- SL6FJ (1.9)
New Processor -- SL6DV (2.4)

1.9? i knew it' only 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4

the P/N of the mobo is different between the 1.6/1.8 and the 2.0/2.2 ... could be an incompatibility...
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T

I don't have my list with me, but am fairly certain that you've got the wrong CPU.
