burner in T22

#1 Post by BradPitt » Sat Aug 09, 2008 3:25 pm

I have read all the posts and replies re a burner in a T2x IBM. I too am trying this trick, but have struck out on my first try -- the connector on the AD 7530B I purchased from Geeks.com doesn't match the one in my T22 (2647-8EU) ultra-Bay. Is there an adapter or something that will correct this problem? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I'm assuming that are referring to this recent thread:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=64186

If so, then what you may be seeing is that the bare AD-7530B drive has a connector which does not resemble what a normal Ultrabay 2000 device has. Ultrabay drives have a "caddy" which adapts the IDE connector on the bare drive to the Ultrabay's connector inside the laptop. There's also a pair of side rails which are screwed to the drive. Here's a picture of the rear of the drive and the matching Ultrabay adapter:

Further along in that thread is an example of a different type of connector that I've not run into before. That type has a blade in the middle of the connector, as opposed to just a rectangular opening. I'd equate it to having either a male (blade-type) or female connector. If this is what you have, then I've not seen a Ultrabay adapter that handles the male connector. All of the drives I've ever modified have the female connector. You might want to contact steveg47 and ask what type of connector he used for his 7530B drive.

thanks for the quik reply -- I discovered this adapter after examining the old drive with a magnifying glass, but I didn,t know about the rails -- thanks a heap for that -- everything should now fall in place after I trim the bezel for the release lever. I'll let you all know if any thing else develops. Again thanks for the help.
