T22 cheapo mobile "music station" studio or someth

#1 Post by chrisbovee » Mon Aug 11, 2008 3:50 pm

Hey folks. I love this forum and have been lurking here for a while. I've been using a T23, 1.13MHz, 512 RAM, 40 HD, type 26478RU, X86, Chinese, former corporate lease XP pro SP3.

Against my better judgment...er budget restraints I bought another TP recently - a T22, 900GHz, 30 HD, 256, W2k, w/COA in good working order. I thought I was going to set it up for a friend who really needs an inexpensive computer but...
guess what happened? Heh, heh, heh. I need a personal backup ThinkPad at the very least, right?

I know there are significant differences, and less performance between the T22 and the T23 but at the price I think I've just completed the cheapo mobile music work station I've always wanted and I'm thrilled to have such a cool machine exclusively for my music applications. I am by no means that tech savvy but I think this thing will serve me well.

I plan to upgrade to 512RAM and don't want to spend much other money on it besides a USB 2 PCMCIA card/port so I'm mostly here to learn and check out other people's ideas.
Without spending much more money here's my light weight mobile T22 music station concept thus far:

I have two small inexpensive mixers with IMPs and lots of I/O options but which don't have USB out.
I can send mix to USB out on my guitar effects processor - it's the only way I have to send a USB signal, as far as I can tell.
No firewire or special interface, nor do I want one because the less music equipment I have to take anywhere the better.
1/8 stereo in on a T22 sound card? None as far as I can tell but I can use the mic in, yes? This confuses me a little and I always felt 1/8 stereo in were handy on my desktops with Creative Sound Blaster cards. Is there a better plug and play sound card I could/should get for the T22?
On board T22 internal mic. I like it on the T23. Not bad for quick lo-fi rehearsal recordings. No extra equipment need for single track recording.
Various Cakewalk HS and XL software over the years plus Pyro unlimited edition and currently Pro Tracks pro that came with my(Digitech) guitar processor.
Also for some audio authoring and multi-tracking I'll also be using an older (Roland)midi keyboard for both midi send and receive...it's going to be a lot of fun for me and if there are any other music digital music creation fans out there here's a big shout out from me. What do you think of my proposed low tech music work station? I'm sure I've missed a few things in my plan but I'm just getting started.

I did mention I got a great deal on the T22, yes?

In the future I'd like to take these machines apart just to clean them but I'm not very good at reading manuals and prefer videos as I have dyslexia and blah, blah, blah. I can read and understand the manuals but it's very tiring for me so that's why I like video. Oh, and just to be clear, I'm a middle aged (yes, like a grandmother) "guitar grrrrrrrrl". hee, hee, hee. Nothing scary, fellows. Nothing at all.
Any comments or advice would be most welcome.
