T22 Cmos Battery

#1 Post by Leedsboi86 » Wed Aug 13, 2008 6:59 am

Hi everyone.

Need to replace the Cmos Battery in my T22.
I have taken the main battery from my T22 but when I get to Cmos and undo the screw it the holder doesn't come out like the guide says it should.

Anyone know how to change these?

the holder should pull out in the horizontal direction of the arrow, as shown on pg61 of the hmm. does it feel like it's going to break?

Ok I think I replaced it right.
How can I tell if I have or not?

if the cmos battery holder slid all the way in and you can replace the holder's screw without forcing anything, you should be ok.

there was some slight resistance but the screw went in when I held it.
Is there anyway to test if I have put it in right or not?

fire it up.
"f1" to enter bios.
set the time and date.
walk through the menus to set any preferences you lost.
save and exit/reboot.

the cmos will retain contents without the battery for a short time. don't know exactly how long though. if your machine is holding time and configuration between power cycles, you should be good to go.

it sounds like windows didn't like the ungraceful shutdown.
usually, windows will just warn and then run a "scandisk" followed by completing the bootup to the desktop.

remind me... what version of windows are you running?

It's Windows XP Prof.

I can boot it in Safe Mode but everytime I try in Normal Mode all I get is the Windows XP Logo with the Bar then it goes onto a black screen and nothing happens after that

boot to windows safe mode.
select "start" and then "run".
type "cmd" and press enter.
type "chkdsk" (without quotes) and press enter.

any errors reported?

The biggest problem replacing a CMOS battery in these models is to get the tiny plug properly set on the two mainboard pins hidden underneath the base. Not much problem getting the battery out. but replacing it is not the easiest thing to do. I generally use a strong light, a dental mirror and a small flat-blade screwdriver to hook the battery up properly, then align it in its hollow and use the screw to fasten the holder with battery.

All is fine now.
The Laptop was off for awhile and it is working perfectly now.

Yea the Cmos was a pain to change cause of the plug but I found the best way to do it was fit the battery into the holder then use a dental mirror like you said to wiggle it in and pop it went in fine.
