t20 with wireless?

#1 Post by newsofparadise » Tue Aug 19, 2008 6:54 pm

Hi. I just bought a T20 on ebay w/o an os
specs: 2647-PNU
LCD - 14"
CPU - 700MHz Pentium III
Memory - 256MB
Hard Drive - 20GB
Optical Drive - DVD ROM
Communications - LAN, Modem
Additional Ports - USB x 1, VGA, S vid, Parallel, serial, PCMCIA, Speaker, Mic.
I was wondering two things:
how to install an operating system (or how could I get a set of restore disks) and
could I add wireless to this computer, and if so, how could I do it? Thanks.

Using your DVD-drive you could load W98SE, W2K or XPP from a Windows-xxx CD.
You would need the corresponding CD-key.
But if you use a Restore-set, you won't need such a CD-key (legalities aside...).
To add wifi, you can use a PCMCIA wifi card or USB wifi stick.
In any case it is highly recommended, to upgrade to 2x 256MB = 512MB total RAM.
You would need low-density PC100 RAM (for 256MB it needs 16 chips per module). Nothing else will work.

It should be noted that only an OEM version Windows CD will work with the COA on the bottom of the machine that you purchased.

(and tawbook doesn't list a 2647-PNU?)

This is the third product type I haven't found in the t*books... are they not so definitive? Or are these user customizable models that aren't listed?

(sorry for threadjack)

Rather than looking in the (incomplete) t*books, look the type up here:
bookmark that page, and enter the 7-character TYPE in the Quickpath box.
