ac adapter / charger

#1 Post by newsofparadise » Sun Sep 07, 2008 7:47 am

Can anyone tell me if an IBM T42 ac power adapter can be used for a T20? I see the difference is the specs is:

ac adapter for T20--
* Universal AC adapter (72 W)
o Input is 100/240 V AC, 1.3/0.70 A, 50/60 Hz
o Output is 16 V DC, 3.5 A
* Li-Ion battery pack: 10.8 V, 3.2 AH, 6 cell/pack

ac adapter for T42--
Universal AC adapter (72 W):
* Input is 100/240 V AC, 1.4/0.7A, 50/60Hz
* Output is 16 V DC, 4.5
* Li-Ion battery pack: 10.8V, 4.4 AH, 6 cell/pack

The ac adapters for a T42 are being sold on ebay and are being represented as the adapters also for T20s and T30s. I was wondering if they are interchangeable or if the T42 adapters would possibly do any damage to the T20 battery. Thanks for your help.

I think you got your figures wrong.
The T20/1/2 adapter is 56W/3.5A
The next adapter (used on T23/T30/T4x and others) is 72W/4.5A.

The latter one can also be used on T20/1/2.

Actually, the output spec for the T20's OEM AC adapter is 16V DC, 4.5A. I have my original right in front of me.

Wattage = volts * amps, or 72W output in this case.

I maybe did get the figures wrong---but I copied and pasted them from IBM's site for T20 specs. So it is ok to use the adapter with the 4.5A output for a T20?
