IBM PCMCIA wireless card - FRU 31P9109 - OK for T21 ??

#1 Post by g8tzl » Tue Sep 16, 2008 1:52 pm

I have recently acquired a "real" IBM PCMCIA wireless (WiFi) card.

The FRU P/N is 31P9109.

I checked out the IBM/Lenovo website and the card is listed as being compatible with the T30 , X31 etc. There is no mention of the T21 or earlier models , such as the 600E etc.

Is this just because the earlier models have "dropped off" Lenovo's supported models list??

I checked out the archives - there is little mention of the 31P9109 although a "for sale" T22 was using a 31P9109 so hopefully its compatible with models before the T30??

Any thoughts?

Thanks

That a/b/g card does not mention support anywhere for TPs below the T30.
But since you have it already, you won't do any damage to your T21
by inserting it and loading the drivers (if you can find them).

Should work no problem, though drivers are only available for NT4, W2k and Xp on the IBM site - so no W9x/ME ..

Even if you can't find drivers for '98 etc, that card has an Atheros chipset. That's good mojo for Linux on older hardware. Don't go too old though. Some earlier Thinkpads need 16bit cards. That card is 32bit cardbus.

Thanks for the feedback.

The card is made for Lenovo by Actiontec.

I checked Actiontec's website - there were Win 98/ME drivers for various type b cards but I could not see anything for a "a/b/g" card.

Maybe the type b driver will work??
