T21 optical drive help

#1 Post by zrednaz » Sun Sep 28, 2008 1:22 pm

Hello,
I have a Thinkpad T21 whose internal CD-ROM drive has somehow got lost, so I'm looking to get a new optical drive in order to be able to install an OS.

I've been to this site http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay The site lists the T21 under the UltraBay 2000 category. Will any drive with the UltraBay 2000 name work with the T21?

Namely these two:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0287512886

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0304427595

Preferably I'd like to get the DVD drive if possible. However, I want to be sure this will work since the PC originally came with a CD-ROM drive. Don't suppose it makes a difference, but PC was purchased in Denmark.

Thanks!

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Yes, both of those Ultrabay 2000 (UB2K) optical drives will work in the T21. If the T21 was originally provided with a CDROM, then you may not have any factory DVD player software installed. However, there are some free players that you can download.

Other options include UB2K CDRW/DVD combo drives. Those can write to CD-R and CD-RW media and play DVDs. You can even install a DVD writer.

Stick with the Ultrabay 2000's and you are fine
Either will work
