Is it a Windows machine? If so, can it be booted up in VGA mode (an option when you tap F8 as the machine is coming up) to see if this is a graphics driver problem rather than a hardware issue?

Shouldn't be an hardware issue, we can't notice it on Windows but very well in games & such.

Well, you're stressing out the poor GPU which has only 16MB of VRAM...there's really no cure for that. T23 is a lovely machine, but gaming rig it's not by any stretch of imagination....

My T40 has lovely graphics on games. This T23 should atleast be able to run Counter-Strike 1.6 ?

Well, I don't know games, but I do know ThinkPads...so let's see:

P3M CPU with max clock of 1.2 running against PM CPU of 1.4 or higher...and double the cache...to begin with.

Savage GPU with 16MB running against (at least) Radeon 7500 with 32MB VRAM and double (at least) the cache...

PC133 RAM against DDR266 RAM...

Yes, I could see that you could play certain games on a T40 that would bug the living daylight out of a T23...if you still don't understand why, feel free to read all of the above again... :D

Counter-Strike asks for 16mb of graphics, weird its graphics are garbled when the card meets the requirements :?

Aside from the S3 chips lack of cooling, it has less cache, a slower internal clock speed, a slower bus speed, less overall features and less processing capabilities. It's not just VRAM that accounts for a GPU's performance.
