T30 MPCI Wireless Question

#1 Post by ArtMaybee » Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:22 am

I feel a bit stupid having to ask this since I work with these devices on a daily basis (though we haven't used T30s in the environment for a few years). We've always used the IBM reccomended FRU for all of our devices though so haven't done anything of this sort with them.

I've got a T30 and am attempting to get a MPCI wireless adapter working in it. This is an IBM FRU part. The part was actually spec'd for the T40/42. I don't have the FRU number handy at the moment as I'm at work. I'll have to add that when I get home. I could buy a card spec'd for the T30 but these are great cards and it would be nice if it would work.

This is an Atheros A/B/C card with an IBM FRU (it's not branded Atheros)

When I installed this card I got both the 1802 and 01C9 errors.
I downloaded the bootdisk which removed the errors.

Now in windows the card's status is: "unable to activate the device". It discovers the card and installs the drivers but finds a problem with it.

What I'm trying to find out primarily is, are there some cards that cannot be made to work with the T30? I updated to the most recent BIOS rev.

I used the IBM driver that's supplied with the wireless adapter. Are there alt drivers for the atheros that might make this work?

I did strip the driver out of windows and reinstall with no effect.

On the T30 Keyboard. FN-F5. Check, 'enable wireless radio'.

Thanks.. I'll try that..

Be nice if it's that simple.
I'd feel stupid if it is...

the FRU is 39T0081

One of my coworkers says he has made this card work in a T30 by using the disk I used. He said that he was unable to get it working by using the drivers that came with the card. I was at our depot so I asked some of the other techs

He used the drivers and utilities for a Ekahau wireless card.

The Driver did it.
I tried the Fn+F5 and it had no effect.

I stripped out the IBM driver and then loaded the one from my coworker. The wireless fired right up.

Thanks for the input.
