T21 -ext. PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse at once - Y splitter?

#1 Post by aan » Sun Nov 02, 2008 10:40 am

I want to use T21 as desktop PC, I have already PS2/USB mouse and want to buy PS/2 keyboard. What is the best solution for T21?

1. Does PS/2 port in T21 support two PS/2 devices plugged in through Y splitter (1xPSM -> 2xPSF) like this:
http://www.alza.sk/SK/redukce-1xpsm-2xp ... d40023.htm

2. Can I plug-in PS/2 keyboard into T21 without splitter and plug mouse through PS/2->RS232 reduction?

3. Can I plug-in USB keyboard into USB hub and write password in BIOS and have plugged PS/2 mouse in PS/2 port of T21?

Because from threads I have read it looks that last 2 options don't work at T21, because without splitter/replicator I can have plugged in PS/2 port only mouse and USB keyboard doesn't work in BIOS, am I right so only possible solution is to buy PS/2 Y splitter and hope splitter and port will work?

Options 1 and 2 will work.
Use an old(er) serial mouse for option 2.

You can also put a keyboard in PS/2 and use a USB or PS/2-USB mouse.

1. Is the easiest and I hope it will work, I'll try it.

2. I don't have old mouse, just new USB (w PS/2 reduction) optical mouse, it woudn't work through reduction from PS/2-RS232 ? Because in same internet shop they have reduction but they have there warning/notice that you must use old mouse and it must not work with optical mouses.

4. But from what I have read in previous threads on this topic PS/2 port on T21 is only for mouse without Y splitter and not for only PS/2 keyboard plugged in or am I wrong? Otherwise it would be good alternative to Y splitter from 1st option or opposite positions in 3rd option (where kbd doesn't work in BIOS).

Yes, but you may need to get a specific IBM one. ISTR trying this a while ago with a generic one - and it didn't work. But that was on an older machine ... I could be wrong on this.

Its probably the neatest solution, and keeps USB ports free for other stuff.
T41 1.6/1.25GB/160GB/54g

So I will answer my questions after experiences:

1. NO, it doesn't work, you must have special IBM one, generic one I bought doesn't work with keyboard.

2. NO, keyboard plugged straight into PS/2 port of T21 doesn't work.

3. This probably won't work, but it's only real possible way how to connect keyboard to T21 without spending too much money.

So now I have useless Y splitter, useless PS/2 keyboard and I'm waiting for USB hub package and will buy this USB->2x PS/2 adapter (ports) and hope it will finally work:

They are selling also simple PS/2->USB adapter, but in reviews they are writing it doesn't work with keyboards, so it's again useless for me.
