DVD±RW For a T23.

#1 Post by newyorkpaulie » Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:45 pm

I just bought an Ultrabay recorder and wanted to know if I need to get special software for it. The item is coming from an ebaY vendor and I don't think it includes any docs or software.

If it's an ultrabay-2000 device you're fine.
Get the free software e.g. here: http://cdburnerxp.se/

If it looks like all my other slide-in devices does that mean it's an "ultrabay-2000"? Sorry if this sounds naive, but I'm honest to a fault!

If the optical drive has the same rear connector and plastic side rails as appears here:

then it will fit inside the T23's Ultrabay. If you have purchased a "bare drive", then you will need those Ultrabay rails and connector. You can get them off of a genuine IBM Ultrabay 2000 drive (will have the large, black IBM label on top of the drive and an FRU number) or you can sometimes get them from eBay.

Yes, that's what it looks like. Would you also recommend using CDBurnerXP?

I think that I have downloaded that program on one of my systems awhile back but can't remember if I ever really used it or not. I generally have been using Nero, Easy CD Creator or another type of DVD writer program. I have suggested the CDBurnerXP program in the past and other members here have too.

I have attempted to run the Latest Roxio EZCD Creator and found it to be too big and too bloated to be of much use. Some of the earlier were better I think.
Nero is fine, but lately I have been using the CDBurner XP, which is much like Nero
The price is right on the XP FREE

Sorry, I should have specified the version of ECDC... I am using 5.3.5.10v. The only thing I use it for is basic CD burning on systems with CDRW/DVD combo drives. For DVDs I am using Nero 6. It seems like that those two programs don't like to be installed at the same time, or maybe it was something that I fiddled with in the registry when I was trying to fix a problem (deleting upper and/or lower filters). In any event, I am definitely not using any of the current versions of either program.
