T23 Trackpoint Malfeasance

#1 Post by ArtShapiro » Wed Nov 12, 2008 1:05 pm

The patient is a T23, 2648-GU2, which gets rather sporadic use.

In recent months, perhaps a quarter of the time, bringing it up - typically from hibernation - gives me no "mouse" - the arrow cursor is gone and moving the trackpoint does absolutely nothing. A reboot invariably comes up again with the arrow present and the trackpoint perfectly functional.

Secondly, a lot of the time, holding down the Scroll button changes the arrow to the up/down scrolling arrow, and keeps it that way even after the button is released. This is a real PITA, and certainly not the way I expect the scroll facility to work. Its intermittent nature is quite baffling.

Do either of these symptoms ring a bell with anyone? I'm not really sure how to start attacking the issues.

Try another keyboard if you have it.
Reinstall the keyboard-/trackpoint- related drivers.
Don't know what else to suggest.
Ah, and run PC-Doctor, lets you test your keyboard keys.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
