Setting T23 processor clock rate

#1 Post by Electron1948 » Mon Nov 17, 2008 5:11 am

Hi,

I've just replaced the motherboard on my trusty 800MHz T23 as it stopped charging the battery. The replacement Ebay Mobo came with a 1Ghz processor but now that I have it all assembled and working it reports a 732Mhz clock. Anyone know how can I change it up to 1GHz?

I have looked in several threads but without a search facility it's like looking for a needle an a haystack!

Many thanks.

Hi there and welcome to our Forum.

Make sure there's a working battery in it, even one that only holds a small charge.
You can change the power settings in the BIOS (press F1 at bootup).
There are more power settings in Display Properties/Screen Saver/Power.

You could also invest a few ££ and buy a 1.13 or 1.20GHz CPU cheap on eBay. Look for a mobile Intel Pentium III (Tualatin) with Intel # SL5CK (1.13) or SL5CL (1.20).

Clock rate resolved

Ahh! Have fixed it. It seems you need to have High performance (or a similar option) set in both BIOS and Windows (XP in my case) Now have it running at 999Mhz which is close enough ;-)

Battery is brand new and fully charged. The old battery died and took the charging circuit with it - hence having to replace the motherboard. A bit frightening and loads of screws and little bits but worth the trouble. I love my T32.

Put your T23 type in your 'Signature' (see mine), it'll help in future.
You can find details for it here (just change the Product or Quick path to yours):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=26474MU

You'll also find drivers and other info there, such as PC Doctor to test your T23.

Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual here:

If you want the cooler running and better battery life T23, use 866MHz CPU. I had it once and the fan barely came on. Keyboard was also very cool to touch.
