My new to me T23 is dead...

#1 Post by cmarti » Tue Nov 18, 2008 9:07 pm

Today I open the door of my truck and the backpack fell on the floor with the T23 powered on in it the sprint pcmcia hit on the floor and I didn't pay any attention to it because the laptop didn't look scratched or nothing.
To my surprise when I got home I tried to wake it up from hibernation and guess what? I only got the power on light the screen is black and the fan pulses on and on.

Any ideas? I remove every card, battery, drive and still I get the same thing.

Ideas are welcome!

It is such a nice laptop

It sounds like you may have knocked loose an inductor. I've had the same problem on my old T23 and the repair is straightforward.

Thanks virge, I also found this other thread:

T23 pulsing fan on startup, wont POST

And indeed the problem is one of the inductors; I disassembled the T23 and found one loose on one side. Will have it soldered tomorrow and will post back the results.

Thanks!

Update!

I solder the inductor and reinforce the other three sides (2 inductors) and the lappy is up and running like a champion.

Me now=

Congrats! That's how I felt after completing the same fix.
