Wireless antennas in T30

#1 Post by Tim82 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:23 am

Hello! One of my friends has a T30 2366-DG6, he wants perform a wireless miniPCI-card-upgrade on this machine. Has this Thinkpad model built-in wireless antennas? I cannot find any information that confirms this or the opposite.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

i cant say if your specific model is with build-in antennas, but my t30 2336-86G was. im now using an atheros bg card in the mini pci slot.

Just open the cover next to the docking-station connector. You'll see if there are any antenna cables.

Greetings

From the Support web site:
Product: ThinkPad T30 2366-DG6 [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: Based on 2366-86G: P4-M 2.0GHz (512KB), 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 24x10x24x/8x CDRW/DVD, Modem(CDC), Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
The description does not have any mention of wireless or 802.11b, so the lid did not have the factory antennas. You can also tell by looking at the lid for plastic "hash marks" along the sides, like these:

Since I look up a large amount of system configurations, I keep this URL in my Firefox bookmark toolbar:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2647HNU

Simply replace the TYPE number at the end of that URL, submit that address and you'll get what you need.

Oh, I didn't mentioned, but I already made a search through Lenovo site with the product number. Thank you for the replies, the solution will be the cover opening to be sure, as Sportler2k3 said.

I have never seen a T30 without wireless antennae in the lid, and I've seen quite a few of them...

Looks like the Support site isn't complete for the T30. I plugged in 2366-63U, which according to the tawbook is a "wireless upgradable" system and it also does not show this in the system description. Input a 2366-91U and it does show this feature. However, the tawbook does not list your friend's DG6 configuration. In short, the best way to determine if it has the proper antennas in the lid would be to look for those plastic stripped windows along the edge of the lid (unless somebody removed them, which leads to Sportler2k3 recommendation to look for the antenna cables :) ).
