T21 - LCD replacement, XGA vs. SXGA

#1 Post by boosty » Fri Dec 26, 2008 12:10 pm

Hi all -

I have a T21 (2647-9AU) with a broken SXGA LCD screen, it's a Hitachi 14.1" model TX36D97VC1CAA.

Can this be replaced with an XGA LCD such as the Hitachi 14.1" TX36D87VC1CAA? And if the answer is yes, would it be compatible with other XGA LCD's (used in T2x's) from Samsung, Sony, etc...

Thanks

PS - If anyone knows of a source for a reasonable used SXGA LCD (<$100) let me know; the reason I'm downgrading to XGA is they are readily available used on ebay - SXGA appears to only be available new for $200+

Any XGA LCD from a T20/T21/T22/T23 will fit in your laptop.
BUT, you will also need to get an XGA LCD cable and an XGA inverter.
The easiest would be to buy a complete (working) lid.

Try a WTB (want to Buy) ad in our marketplace forum for SXGA+ or try eBay from a reputable seller.

I happen to have a 'bare bones' T21 with a good sxga listed on Ebay right now. You could just plug in your hard disk and be done. or you could swap the lid complete with cable and inverter into your unit.
