T22 inverter problem?
Hey folk's, I am trying to bring my T22 from dead and give it to my sister because it died and I got my cousins old T41 that I'm using now. I thought the T22 had an inverter problem as shown in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H-Stpw4 ... annel_page
So I got a new inverter from 5rprocessor. I came today and i recently installed it but......IT DID NOT WORK. Same lame white screen. Any idea's? I am not scared to open the computer completely up.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
that looks to me like an LCD problem
did you check your Connection to the MB?
check your RAM?
Hook it up to an external monitor and see if it boots

Re: T22 inverter problem?
It boot's fine with an external display. I took out the RAM and put it back in....Still not luck. I really hope it is not a MB problem.....
edit; I just opened it up to check the connection from the MB and tried it again. still no go.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
Agreed. That video shows that the inverter AND the backlight (aka, CCFL) are working properly. The inverter's job is to convert a small DC voltage to a large AC voltage that the backlight requires. Since your system is showing a glow around the screen, in particular at the bottom of the screen where the backlight is located, then your non-display problem is not the inverter or the CCFL. Lack of video display is probably due to:
- bad connection somewhere in the video ribbon cable; this can be as simple as re-seating (unplugging and plugged back together) of the cable at the motherboard end AND the back of the LCD panel. Or there can be a break somewhere in the cable itself.
- bad LCD panel
- bad video controller on the motherboard
- some other hardware issue
I'd also try removing the hard drive, the Ultrabay device, and in particular, the MiniPCI modem/ethernet card (behind the second panel on the bottom) and see if that helps with booting the system.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
Check fuse F4. It is located on the bottom side of the board, below the lcd connector.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
If that fuse is blown, will that cause a loss of video display (as opposed to having no backlight operating)?

When the fuse F4 is blown the backlight will still work.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
How much does that fuse cost? I remember when it blew. I booted up(I have no HDD at the time so i was running DSL which i ran for about a month with no problems) And when i was about to log in the screen went white over the span of 2 seconds.

Usually pennies, when compared to the shipping cost you're normally hit withdivindavid wrote:How much does that fuse cost?

you will find some low-resolution images of the motherboard that I've prepared as a map. The high-resolution images are here:
http://www.kawakami-ca.com/ibm_t2x/t22_ ... _hires.jpg
http://www.kawakami-ca.com/ibm_t2x/t22_ ... _hires.jpg
Fuse F4 appears to be located in map coordinates of B4, just below the docking port connector on the back side of the motherboard. It has an "N" marking on it which should indicate the current rating. I'll see if I can find the right part at Mouser or Digikey.
edit: This .PDF catalog might have the correct part: http://www.littelfuse.com/data/en/Data_ ... se_466.pdf If so, then it's a 2A fuse. The physical size looks right but I'd have to measure one with a caliper.
The Mouser link is: http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.asp ... 0466.200NR
The Digkey link is: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... F1451CT-ND
You should attempt to verify that the fuse is actually blown; measure with an ohmmeter. Then confirm that the package size is correct.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
Well funny enough I am into digital electronics and often order from digikey and mouser. I'll check if they have it at jameco they are normally cheaper from small items and they have the PICKIT2 i need. I did not have a snow day today so idid not get a chance to open it up. I will try on sunday to locate the fuse.

Re: T22 inverter problem?
do you know how to check the fuse?
all you need is a multimeter, or redneck style would be to solder a wire to bypass(dangerous)

Re: T22 inverter problem?
It is a size 0603 fuse, so if selecting from the Littlefuse catalog, it will have to be from the 467 series.
Do not order yet. Just check that fuse.
I am currently doing a similar repair and have some of these fuses on order. They should arrive today.
I will know more when I have tried to replace one of these fuses, but I do have a suspicion that it will just blow again.
Do NOT bypass that fuse with a wire.

Yeah I'm going to open it up sometime this weekend to check the fuse.
Re: T22 inverter problem?
Does anybody know where the inverter backlight fuse is on T4X mainboards by the way?
