Using a T22 LCD in a T30

#1 Post by nicksim_f » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:39 am

Hi,
The LCD screen on my t30 has just been ruined by a nasty fall and I am just wondering - is it possible to use an LCD screen from a t22 as a replacement? Are the pin connectors the same? I tried searching the forum but was unable to find a definite answer.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately no, T30 uses a different connector on the LCD end. The only other panel that use this connector is the 15 inch SXGA+ in A22m and A20p.

Thanks for the quick reply! What if I were to use a cable converter like the ones listed here?
http://www.pchub.com/uph/category/503/L ... erter.html

Which, if any, of those converters might work? And if one would work, would it be ok to fold the excess ribbon cable? (because adding the converter cable would make the overall cable length too long to fit in the laptop without folding)

Alternatively, would it be possible obtain a cable from a T22 to make it work?

Not quite sure which one would fit. You can sent them a question and may be they know. Here is a good reference:

Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know not to bother trying to use one of those converter cables listed at the link above to use a t22 lcd in a t30. I tried and it seems to have fried my poor old t30. The screen flashed white for a second, then the whole computer turned off, now it wont turn back on again. The LED below the screen doesn't even light up when it is plugged in to charge.
I assume that this is most probably something blown in the motherboard, so it is time for me to buy a new laptop. :(

Unless.... it wouldn't be some sort of replaceable fuse that has blown, would it?

I'm afraid you can kiss your motherboard Goodbye!
If you check the pin-outs of the T22 and T30 LCDs, you will probably find that you were feeding a positive wire into ground, or vice versa, and shorted your motherboard, and maybe also the logics of the LCD.
You are now the proud owner of a black door stopper. :(
