Am I asking too much??

#1 Post by flyonthewall » Thu Jan 15, 2009 1:50 pm

I've got a T23 and a T30 that I'm attempting to sell locally.

T23:
http://austin.craigslist.org/sys/991519705.html
T30:
http://austin.craigslist.org/sys/991551708.html

There's not a lot of comparables in the area.. Are these fair asking prices?

*I apologize in advance if I shouldn't be posting links here, the purpose of this post is strictly to answer my above questions. Thanks.

the prices seem reasonably to me. However, I'm not in the market for such a system so I don't really know what similar systems currently go for. Have you looked on ebay to get a comparison?

I did check on eBay, and actually lowered the prices of both to what they are now due to the prices I found on eBay.

Anyone else have any input?

Prices seem reasonable in view of the software you put on.

This may put them off: The only bad thing I can say about it is there are a couple stress cracks in the case. I superglued the cracks and they're hardly noticeable but I just want to be upfront with everything.
(same text for both: not a good idea)

I can understand the above for a T23, but not for a T30!

And a T30 can be upgraded to 2GB RAM

Adding the model no suffix (mine is 2366-81U) would be helpful information.

realblackstuff: i didn't know what else to call them. i know it's common on t23's, but the t30 was like that when i got it so i honestly don't know how they got there.

robert213: i did have the model #'s listed, but a) both hard drives have been upgraded, b) the t30's screen was a transplant and c) the t30 case that i have doesn't match up to it's being a 1.6 ghz (must have been changed out by the previous owner?) so people were a little thrown off when the actual units weren't matching up with the original description.. :\

thanks for the replies guys!

Although I bought the T23 and T30 I have via eBay,
I constantly cruise our local CL for ThinkPad stuff,
and have bought a number of accessories from there.

Suggestions:

I would also include what speed the USB ports are,
since they are both pre-2.0 as far as I know. It's
important info most buyers don't think about until it
is too late and they feel frustrated.

I would take the advice about including the Model/
Type number, but taking into account what you said
would phrase it like "Originally a 2647-N16 but has
been extensively upgraded."
I like to use the number
not only to check the Lenovo site info but to Google
to comparison shop and see what a great deal it is.
I also have more confidence in sellers who know
enough to include the numbers.

Did these cracks go all the way through before you glued
them? Because that's what the word implies to me. If
not you could use another word, though I admit nothing
springs to my mind, maybe you could say "there were
several cracks starting to develop so I filled them in.
"

You could include pictures of the cracks and broken latch
so people could see how minor they are.

Good job on making it clear the T23 does NOT have the
built-in wireless card and the T30 does. That's what I
am always checking for in those models.

Finally, I agree with RBS that it's not ideal to use almost
the exact same wording in both ads, if they are like me
many will read both and wonder why. It somehow seems
kind of spam-like when you read them both.

I would also change the titles, they make it sound
like the T23 or T30 were BUILT as budget laptops
when they were new, when you mean they are
great buys now. The text of the entire T30 ad never
even mentions the magic word Thinkpad. I'd
title them something like "Great Price on IBM ThinkPad
Txx
(etc.)"
