Puzzling T30

#1 Post by jronald » Sat Jan 17, 2009 4:15 pm

I have a T30 that will not boot with a known good stick of DDR
But without the memory installed gives, the 133 beep code.
Any ideas?

Ron

Ron, I just went through a fiasco with a T30 where an IBM FRU PC2100 module wouldn't work in it, but all other sticks I tried worked. Try another stick of PC2100 or PC2700.

Does it appear to boot? In other words, any hard drive activity after power up?

Have not put a HDD in it
It does not give me a post beep
I have a T23 HDD that I could slap in it, its close enough that it should post, boot and then protest.
Or I could put the CDROM in and post it to Knoppix
Think its worth a try?

Got video out, I reseated the memory
The original panel was a Hitachi, the replacement is a Samsung
Are the inverters the same?

Inverters are the same for both XGA and SXGA on a T30.
LCD cables are different.
Your T30 had XGA.

Different beast
The Hitachi cable mated with the Samsung display with no problems
So i assumed the 2 LCDs were the same but in name only
Im missing a boatload of screws, though it is possible that is the issue

The new Samsung probably reads: LTN141XE-L01 instead of LU1
Another working Samsung: LTN141PE-L01 with FRU 11P8273
The difference might be (?) 150 and 200 nit.

The X in LTN141X... is for XGA
The P in LTN141P... is for SXGA+

So they would use different cables.

I now have this machine. Tried my good RAM stick, a CPU swap, and disconnected the screen entirely. It powers up, shows LEDs, the fan comes on, no HD activity, runs about 3 seconds, and dies. There is a click as it dies (like a relay drop) and it needs to be unplugged for a min before it will try to start again. I'm just starting in this stuff, and have a POST card on the way for it and another machine I have. Any hints to what that click might be, or whats causing this?

EDIT: found fuse five was blown. No replacements so I shorted it. Seemed to work okay until I knocked a resistor, and the resistor fried (lots of smoke.) I don't think I can fix it, since there is a good little black spot where it was. I'm still trying, but I'm also putting up a wanted post for a t3x mb.
