Need Help with - Dim LCD works fine with external monitor

#1 Post by longfellow6-6 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 9:21 pm

All,

I've read on other post about the differences between the digital signal to the LCD and the analog signal to the external monitor. My T30 screen is quite dim. I can barely see the contents of the screen in the daylight. it is still very poor but readable without any other lights on in the room. Is this the inverter the cable (my guess) or something else. If I push the screen dim/brighten (FN Home key/End key) nothing happens. I'm think that this is a more function of the keyboard not working as it should. Pg Up/Dn and delete aren't working either. Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have a new keyboard on the way, so I would like to work on both issues while I have the T30 opened up.

Many thanks,
Keith

When you first power the T30 up in the morning is there a red tint to the screen?

Harry,

I haven't seen any red tint to the screen. I usually have it on all time but have shut it down tonight to see what the morning brings.

Thanks for the quick reply

Good morning all,

Well there is no pink tint to the screen.
The Windows logo was a very dim white.

Suggestions?

I'd try the inverter first, they are cheap enough. If that's not it then the CCFL tube (backlight) is on the way out. That can get into some money unless you do the repair yourself. To replace just the tube is a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10 for level of difficulty for laptop repairs. If you replace the entire LCD assembly, then it gets easier, but more expensive.

Little bit of correction on the swapping of the backlight
The first one is an easy 9 on a scale of 1 to 10
After the first they are not hard to swap, but they are tough to swap correctly
I can swap one in less than 20 mins on an XGA screen
Understand Im not volunteering to do it, on other than my own machines
Or machines I have an interest in
