bootup time

#1 Post by retired » Thu Mar 12, 2009 9:37 pm

I just got a t20. At first it delayed for a couple of seconds at the bios select screen. Now it stays there for 14seconds. I'd prefer the 2 or 3 seconds. Any idea how I can fix this?

How much RAM do you have in it?

384 mb, but I haven't changed the ram and the bios startup time has.

You may try to just hit the Space bar, in some cases that shortens the waiting time.

Several things to check:

- check the Memory entry in the Config section of the BIOS. Verify that the setting for Extended Memory Test is "disabled". In my experience with T23 systems there's not much of a noticeable delay when that setting is enabled but the T20 does run slower.
- if that's not the problem and assuming that there's an optical drive installed in the Ultrabay, make sure that there's no disk in the drive.
- if there's no disk in the CD/DVD drive, pull out the optical drive and see if that shortens the boot time. I've found some drives which cause a boot delay but what's usually present on the screen is a blank display. In other words, it got past the IBM splash screen and has just a blinking cursor. Most of those drives will work fine after the OS is finally loaded.
