T23 Problem not likley motherboard

#1 Post by CyberAxe » Fri Apr 17, 2009 7:41 am

I just spent more money that i would have liked to get a "working" mobo and the result on my system is the same as my repaired mother boards the power comes on, the Z light is lit and the power light is on, there is no beep code, the screen remains black, i'm not willing to beleive this is a motherboard problem as it happend with 3 different motherboards, so the only thing i can think of is its either the strip alogn the back with all the ports on it thats not working or the monitor itself but surley it would still get tot eh bios scren if it was the monitor

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Is you screen totally black, or does it light up a little? When under bright fluorescent light, can you see a dim image on the screen? If the CCFL has gone out, the LCD will still work, but it will be extremely dim. That applies to everything displayed, the IBM splash screen, BIOS, etc.

What about with an external monitor?

Have you tried cycling through Fn+F7 settings to make sure the external monitor is not off?

So, if your LCD is totally black, that means the inverter is not getting power to the LCD panel. And if the panel isn't working (without lighting up), then the video signal isn't getting to the LCD through the LCD ribbon cable either. And if an external monitor isn't getting any signal, that means...what? I'm afraid I don't remember how the video feed to the external monitor connects to the motherboard. Someone who has been inside a T23 more recently than I will have to answer that one. And, to top it off, you get the same result with three different motherboards? This really is a tough one!

OK. great! Progress is good. :thumbs-UP: Could be the battery itself has a short that is preventing the system board from powering up. Let us know how it goes with the other system boards.

Ok, the one i repaired does the same with the power in and no battery, the other one i had shorted it a couple of years back so can no longer test that one, (though i wouldnt be surprised if the problem i had that caused me to short it could have been fixed like this)

so time to stick "working one" back in and find all the long lost case screws and compartments!

If you haven't already tired this or if the motherboard(s) is(are) basically bare, remove the MiniPCI card (modem or modem/wireless combo) and see if that helps. I've had a number of T23 systems appear to be "dead" when there's a defective communications card installed.
