Battery problems & Wireless Internet

#1 Post by Mr. Bum Bam » Wed Apr 22, 2009 1:57 am

I tried other forums and none of them have offered any useful solutions, then it came to me. Why not use the IBM forums. One would think that would be the first thing that would come to mind. Anyway, this is the problem. I was using my IBM t30 (23667U1) with Windows XP SP3 (build 2600) to watch a video on the internet. The laptop suddenly froze. I restarted the laptop and got a "1802" error about the Mini PCI card. About a month later, I removed the Mini PCI card and placed in back in the laptop and the laptop booted up fine but the battery hasn't charged once since that PCI incident. My Bios version is 1IET64WW (2.03B). I tried a fresh install of XP but that doesn't help. Any Solutions??

Now, about the wireless internet. I just want to know the steps I have to take in order to access the internet without a cable. Someone told me I have to find out which PCI card I have and find out if that PCI card supports wifi and, if the PCI card supports wifi, download the drivers for that particular PCI card. If those truly are the steps I need to take, can someone tell me how to check which PCI card I am using. If these are not the steps, please tell me the steps.

Note: I will check this forum at least 5 times a week.

Thank you all in advance.

If you want wireless LAN on your computer, you have two options... You can get a MiniPCI wireless card (which also means you have to make sure your laptop has antennas for it built in) or you can simply buy a PCMCIA wireless card.

Have you tried removing the battery for awhile? Will the laptop power up off that battery?

The 1802 error means you have a MiniPCI card installed that's not listed in the BIOS white list; if the card is known working, there's a workaround (or at least there is for the T4x).

OK, well I removed the MiniPCI card and placed it back in the laptop and the T30 is working fine now. In fact, I am using the T30 to post on this forum right now. So, the 1802 error isn't a problem at this moment. I want to know the steps required to MiniPCI use the card for wireless LAN.

As for the battery, the laptop wont boot from the battery. When the laptop is on and I attach the battery to the laptop, the battery icon on the base of the monitor begins to flash (orange). The status of the battery says charging but is never moves from 0%. Oddly though, the battery used to charge up fine and give me 3 hours of life before the MiniPCI incident.

I wonder if that incident may have caused the battery to not charge.
