IBM T30 CDRW/DVD Won't Boot Fom CD

#1 Post by coreduo » Sun May 03, 2009 12:00 pm

I recently acquired this T30 and went to reformat and it won't boot from the cd/dvd
Made sure the boot priority order was correct, updated the embedded controller and
the bios version and still nothing. I can hear the drive start to wind up but then it fails
and boots to the hdd.

The drive recognises and plays cd's and dvd's and even burns with no problem?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Can you provide the FRU and manufacturer and part number of the optical drive? I've had some issues before with non-Thinkpad labeled optical drives, typically Pioneer DVD burners, with not being able to boot a known good disk. Those drives also seem to slow down the Windows boot process by several seconds. My only guess is that they are not configured correctly for use inside the Ultrabay.

Have you also tested the CD or DVD to see if it will boot in another system?

Hi there
Thankyou for your reply. I suspect your probably right about the manufacturer. I say 'suspect'
because I sold it and can't tell you the drive fru or manufacturer. The person who purchased it
didn't seem to concerned, but was only interested because of the serial port.

I've had quite a few differerent IBM's but never with that problem. Could have been an age issue
to. As a last resort I was going to load the os on a usb with auto/start and boot to that.

Thankyou for your time.
