Re: T30 Recovery CD Set Needed
I'm new to this site and really glad I found this one as it seems very helpful especially to a not computer expert like me.
I bought an ibm t21 (2647-4AU) Pentium III, 800mhz, Wifi card, 256mb, DVDrom in ebay but it has no operating system, no hard drive, no ac adapter and no restore disk or any disk included.
I'm hoping that Mr. RBS could also help me with the restore disk or any necessary disk to make this laptop work. I'm also wondering and confused of what ac adapter should I purchase. In the back of the laptop it printed: 16V = 3.36A and the Li-Ion Battery (L18650-6TPT) is 10.8 volts 3600 mAH.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank You so much!

I too am looking for T30 Restoration CDs. I picked up a unit and am very pleased with the performance but it has a lot of O/S issues that were probably induced by someone making it 'bigger-better-faster'.
Will somebody point me to a good source?

Hey,
New member here. My T30, which I've had for years, has it's HDD going out. I have a new one on the way, so yup, I'm looking for recovery CDs.
Any PMs appreciated

Re: T30 Recovery CD Set Needed
Not onlly the above, but they can put the restore partition on your new HDD as well! The recovery CDs are the best to "start fresh" on a ThinkPad. Once you get a boatload of apps and data, you would do well to clone the disk.RealBlackStuff wrote:They are the recovery disks from IBM, which include Windows XP Pro (without any Service Packs) as well as all the T30 drivers and specific T30 software. I add another disk with additional software.
For a factory Recovery you do not need Windows activation, for any other Windows version you do.
That's why these disks are preferred over any others.
Now onto my request,
I bought a CD set for my two 2366-8AU machines, but i also have a 2367-KU6 (with the dead fan). Are these different CDs?? If so can i get info on obtaining a set?
I found a source on ebay where i bought some for my T21 (the the T30 set above) a couple years ago, but can't find a win 98 CD set for my T22. I bought it and the T21 from an IBM distributor as refurbished, the T21 came with recovery cds, but the T22 did not?!?... I also need a T23 set for Win98 if such a thing exists. Thanks in advance.

If you can wait until i can get my personal machine re-connected to the 'Net (none here in the training ex, will be back in civilization on 24 June) i can provide you with FRUs on the power adapters, batteries, etc for your ThinkPad T21.
Note T30 and T20 series can all use the same adapters.
T30 batteries will fit in and work on T20 series, but not the reverse. There is a notch in the T30 battery compartment that T20 series doesn't have and older batteries will not physically fit in a T30.
HDDs CDs DVDs, floppies all interchange 100%, but NOT memory. T21 and T22 do take the same memory.

Re: T30 Recovery CD Set Needed
Talking about XP-Pro:
All T20/T21/T22/T23 can use the same restore set.
The same is most likely applicable to W2K.
The two limitations/additions are, that each needs its own video and ethernet driver.
All T30 models can use the same restore set.
This applies to W2K as well as XPP.
I don't know about any W98 restore sets, they probably exist...

I have a T21 (or T22 - can't remember and i am not at home) W98 CD recovery set - 2 CDs.
Update: My W98SE CD set says T21, but as RBS says its good for T22 as well.

That's correct, the 2nd disk is just supplemental programs. The reserved partition is only 600MB or so...automobus wrote:I have a Windows 98 CD for T20. The whole preload fits on one disc.
Come to think of it, my W98 set is a T21 set, that machine had no reserved partition.
The T22 has a reserved partiton but no recovery CDs. IBM was bouncing around on this back then. I cloned a T22 disk and put it in a T21 without issues. Just had to let winblows '"install' the ethernet and sound devices at first boot. duh!

Re: T30 Recovery CD Set Needed
I had a similar problem finding T30 recovery CD's. This may be helpful if you cannot get hold of Lenovo's recovery CD.
Before my T30 died, I replaced a new 80Gb Preloaded HD. As added insurance I also bought the three CDs. The T30 recovery CD version 1.57 dated 2002 or 2000. Last year the HD died. A few weeks earlier I decided to revive the T30. Found many keys not working, especially "Y,” "backspace". After countless trial and errors, I found ways to bootup the T30 with malfunction keyboard. Took over 12 hrs to installed WinXP pro, update SP2, SP3 and hotpatch. In my trial and errors, I found I could reinstall with Dell's SP2 recovery CD, but it is illegal with MS “words” on the right lower corner, just above the task bar. I abandon it as I cannot type in either the Key at the bottom T30 or the original Key before it died last year.
I found a long forgotten CD. I put together last year using BartPE, nLite and "howtohaven" (website below. To save time and learning curves start with "howtohaven") with saved i386 before the T30 died. I spend more than four mths learning nLite to slipstream SP2, SP3, HotFix and updates. I can re-install WinXP Pro just under 1-1/2 hrs. I am not a computer geek but a newbie. If I can do it, so can anyone. Another advise, “Goggle” keeps on trying and you can all the free utilities and help in the web.
I can bootup with; “enter’, spacebar and a few other keys. Good luck!

Re: T30 Recovery CD Set Needed
Hey guys, new to the board. Sorry to revive such an old thread but I need some help. My T30 crapped out on me and I tried running the Recovery Program with the IBM button. It would run and allow me to start recovery but it would immediately fail at 2% and reboot. At restart a message pops up in the blue recovery theme saying an error occurred. I attached the hard drive to my desktop and ran checkdisk and it did find a few errors. I have extra laptop hard drives i can swap in but how can i run the Recovery to the new hard drive (i do not have recovery cd as there is no option to create them). Does anyone have a downloadable copy?
