T30 OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND AFTER SYSTEM RECOVERY

#1 Post by lynnja » Tue May 26, 2009 11:03 pm

I am helping my sister with her T30. She had a virus that took over her computer and could not access the internet. I had her do a system recovery off the recovery partition. No disks.

It worked and she was doing microsoft updates. Suddenly after restarting the computer after one of the updates she was getting a black screen with:

Intel R Boot Agent 4-1-07
Intel Corp
Intel Base Code TXE:21

Media Test Failure

Existing boot agent

Operating System Not Found

I dont know what happened, but in addition to this the computer is making a LOUD KNOCKING sound!! Also, cannot get any of the F-function keys to work...nothing happens and just goes to the black screen as described above

Help. Any advise of where to go from here....

Thanks!

Sounds to me like your sister's hard disk has died :(

It seems that the hard drive is about to fail or has failed. The nosies expelled are not a good sign. I would recommend re-seating the hard drive as the prompt that you are recieving are the sequences of trying to boot from a network. Do you know what brand your hard drive is? You can download DFT (drive fitness test) of the brand and test your hard if re-seating it doesn't work.

Thanks for the responses.

I am just wondering...she had a virus like spyguard 2009 on it that had taken over the computer-couldn't access internet and other utilities. Could the virus have caused the hard drive to fail somehow (after the system recovery)?

Unlikely, there haven't been any hardware-destructing viruses in years.
