Help! How to use recovery disks?!!!
Help! I have a four CD set of the recovery disks for the T30 and I just finished (I think) with disc 1 and do not know when I'm supposed to insert disc 2.
It's restarted after disc 1 and is now seting up for the 2nd time!!!

Re: Help! How to use recovery disks?!!!
Read the instructions you got!
You need to start with a blank/empty hard disk, otherwise you get just Windows itself, and no IBM utils.
Also, you will be asked to activate Windows if your hard disk already contained stuff (like an old install or Ubuntu etc.).
Use a program like Active@killdisk from http://www.killdisk.com/ (floppy version for DOS recommended)
Let that run for 10-15 minutes, then start the Recovery again.
If it does NOT ask for disk 2, you did not wipe enough of the hard disk.

Formatting is no good!
You need to have a CLEAN hard disk, with NOTHING on it, no partitions, no NOTHING.

lol You should see my room! Stuff strewn all over the place! I have an copy of kill disk from a time my brothers HD needed to be wiped clean. I winded up with three XP Professionals on boot!
OMG that was scary! lol. The killdisk is working on the drive. One question though why does it say 74.65 gb are being wiped? Does it leave an remainder for misc. purposes (don't know what to call it)?
Edit: Just saw that it has to be totally clean. Okay going to wipe it extra!!!

Re: Help! How to use recovery disks?!!!
If you have a 80GB labeled HD, that is in reality ca. a 75GB HD. The rest is overhead and bad computation by the manufacturer. They count 1GB = 1000MB, whereas in fact, 1GB = 1024MB
You don't need to wipe the whole disk, the first few percent of it (say run for 10-15 minutes) should be enough.

Emerald
I found that the T30 recovery was incredibly slow
When it said may take a few minutes, it took at least 15
I have done T22 and T23 and never had a second thought
The T30 was slow I wondered several times
Leave it alone, it will tell you to put disk 2 in
Then disk 3.
I never got disk 4 to load correctly, I just added MS update and ran with it
