#1 Post by peternsomerset » Sun Jun 28, 2009 9:36 am

Does anyone on the forum have details on what keyboard to use on Linux as I have started to get problems with the number lock changing!?

Thanks for your time

What is your xorg.conf?
(and I will try it , someone elsewhere said to use "spacesaver" but it still did not work, number lock keeps switching itself on!)

Thanks

Ubuntu utilizes many, but not all of the hardware detection schemes that Klaus Knoppler has written for Knoppix. Perhaps posting your results for Dmesg from your bootlog will help.
Perhaps more fruitful would be getting a copy of Knoppix and capturing the Dmesg from booting it up. This might reveal a failing hardware component. . .or not.

Thanks for the replies. FWIW I am a retired Linux hobbyist running fc10. Unfortunately I started with Fedora and have kept to it as its familiar to met! I did try Ubunto but, although its got a good user base, I could not get round how it was configured (cant teach an old dog new tricks as we say in UK!).

I will have a look at the Ubunto forums. The keyboard has worked OK in the past and there did not seem to be error messages in dmesg. The reason I was asking is that my laptop seems to go into number lock mode after boot up which is a bit annoying.

Just googled and found that Ubunto should have the "xorg.conf in /etc/X11/ directory. If so, could someone print it so I can see which keyboard Ubunto uses and I will configure mine the same way?

Also when I am in my fedora keyboard GUI I do not seem to have any T** model keyboards that I can load, which is a bit strange :?

Thanks for your time

I'm not sure if you where looking for or need this info but I was having the same issue when trying to load/boot some Mint flavored distributions. It took me a little bit, and by mistake, but I was able to turn the numlocks off through the "Shift + NumLock" key combination. I have not done the xorg.conf yet because I have not decided on which flavor of Linux I will ultimately install on my T23 if any.

This certainly sounds like a BIOS setting but from checking a couple of my T23 systems, there does not seem to be any setting anywhere that I can find which forces NumLk on. You could try resetting the BIOS to defaults and see if that helps. Access the BIOS setup menu, select "Restart", then choose "Load Setup Defaults". Then press the F10 key to save the settings and exit.
