T23/T30 - will AVG 8.0 slow down laptop vs AVG 7.5???
T23/T30 - will AVG 8.0 slow down laptop vs AVG 7.5???
I have been running AVG 7.5 on my T21, T23 and T30 with no problems.
Updates to AVG 7.5 have now stopped (a few months ago!!).
About a year ago, when AVG 8.0 was launched , there were lots of comments about how AVG 8.0 slowed down older laptops with limited RAM and slower processors.
I have searched the archives but I have seen no comments that things have improved with AVG 8.0.
Using a T21 (128MB RAM) , T23 (256MB RAM) and T30 (512MB RAM) , will AVG 8.0 slow down my TP's compared to AVG 7.5? Should I switch to an alternative "free" anti-virus product such as Avast? Or has AVG 8.0 improved its performance with older TP's?
With my TP570 running Windows ME , I will definately need to switch as AVG no longer supports Win 98/ME - I guess I will try Avast??
Thanks

Re: T23/T30 - will AVG 8.0 slow down laptop vs AVG 7.5???
I have 10 or so Laptops and desktops running AVG 8.
Only one of them has given me any issues, and its the fastest desktop!
So T20,T23, T30 both Intel and AMD (except 1 AMD) all seem fine, in my experience.
You can kill some of the process's and speed it up if needed

Thanks jronald.
I now see that AVG has already launched AVG 8.5
Anybody know if AVG 8.5 will also NOT slow down my T21, T23 and T30? Or should I just use AVG 8.0 assuming its still updated?

If you already install an AV program, why for goodness sake would you want an old version? Beats me

When I last reinstalled software on a new HD, I installed AVG 8.0. It automatically became AVG 8.5 a few month later after performing its automatic updating process.g8tzl wrote:Thanks jronald.

Re: T23/T30 - will AVG 8.0 slow down laptop vs AVG 7.5???
AVG 8 series seemed to slow down my t23 compared to avg 7.5. I changed to free avast and computer seems more responsive. (My experience comports with what some reviewers have said about new avg 8 series being resource hog.) (on lenovo core 2 duo desktop we have, doesn't seem to matter which is not that surprising, given processor.) I used avg for a long time. was bummed about the slowdown with the upgrade.
