R.I.P. My T30

#1 Post by fuzzmaster » Thu Aug 20, 2009 11:18 am

Well, I think my T30's finally toast. Apparently my kid spilled a glass of water into the keyboard and now it won't power up. Grrrrr. My question is: can I save the data? I pulled the hard drive but don't have another laptop to plug it into. Is there an adapter I can get to access it on my desktop?

Thanks!

You can get an eide/PATA to USB adapter/enclosure which should allow you to connect your drive to another computer using a usb port. I can't recommend any particular one as I've never gone that route myself, but I'm sure others here could make some suggestions. Also your t30 might not be "toast" yet. I would suggest you remove the battery immediately as well as the ac adapter and not attempt any powering up of the computer until you've gotten some advice of some here who have experience in dealing with the water on the keyboard problem. There's a possibility your t30 might still be salvageable.

With this baby you can access most any drive from another laptop/PC

Awww... Sorry to hear about that!

There are several threads here about spilt water on lappies. Use the search feature to find the threads.

Have you disassembled your T30 to dry???

Do not try to turn it on anymore if you have already!!!

you the best thing to try is to wait for it to dry. if it doesn't work, then i guess its time to buy a new laptop! but before you bin the t30, if it refuses to work, can i buy the whole lcd from you? mine is in poor shape, and needs a new one.

If you wait for it to dry, oxidation will take its toll. Take it apart and dry it under the sun.
