Does the ThinkPad 600 docking station work with the T23?

#1 Post by TikaC » Fri Sep 04, 2009 4:11 pm

As I mentioned in another post, I recently bought a used ThinkPad 23. (Yes, I have 3 now :) ) I have RAM on the way and if it works out (should) I will have upgraded to 1GB. My other post is dealing with the possibility of getting a larger hard drive.

I still have the ThinkPad 600 and the docking station that went with it. I was wondering if it will work on the T23? It would give me another USB port in addition to the two on the T23. I have a wireless USB Mouse and Keyboard in one port, and printer in another. Would like to have a free USB port for USB drives. Or should I use a USB hub (I have an unpowered one but some things won't work on a hub?)

Kinda trying to figure out a good solution. :)

The T series, along with many other systems of that day, uses a different docking standard than the 600 series. The docking port is on the bottom of the system, not the back, and the pins are totally different. There are a couple of docking stations / port replicators that can be used with the T23, most of them can be had for fairly cheap. However, when docked, the T23's USB ports are blocked so you can't use them.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just try using the USB Hub I have, and if that doesn't work, I'll just unplug the printer when I go to do backups. I use a WD Passport USB hard drive and flash drives for backups (passport for all backups and the flash drives for 2nd backups in case the passport should fail for some reason).
