T21 Repair *PIC*
T21 Repair *PIC*
I need help repairing my T21. I replaced the power port. While disassembling this, two small bars fell out. They both have holes in them for a screw. I went to the IBM website, and all they have are very vague drawings. I cannot find where these go. I went ahead and put it back together. It gets power, but does not turn on at all. I am about to toss the whole thing in the trash. I do not know where to look next.

Re: T21 Repair
It's been awhile since I've taken a T21 apart; have more experience with the T23. If you can provide any pictures of those pieces I'm sure that somebody around here can quickly identify what you have.

Re: T21 Repair
Was it the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T2x that you looked at? I've always found the drawings to be very detailed where it comes to parts replacement and identification.

Re: T21 Repair
Page 147 of the T20-T23 HMM does not show any small metal parts that may have screwholes in them.
Post a link to a picture of those parts, and we may be able to tell you.

Yeah, it's been a while for me too, since I had a T2x apart. But, that looks like the LCD cable clamp. There is a clamp that goes across the connector to keep it plugged into the system board. Or, maybe not, my memory is not so good.
BTW, the request was for a "link" to the picture. Forum rules don't allow inline images over 50KB, IIRC, with a warning in the subject line.

Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Re: T21 Repair *PIC*
I don't believe that either of those is the LCD ribbon cable clamp; just removed the keyboard from a T21 and that clamp is "L" shaped. Without further stripping down my T21, I don't know what those pieces are for. Doing a quick re-size of the original image seems to say that the hole spacing is about 1.4" and that those two pieces could be bolted together. If you didn't disassemble the lid, then I'm at a loss to say where those might go in a T21. I say the lid assembly only because the size of those pieces are about the width of the LCD ribbon cable.
