vertical lines on LCD

Have an old T30 I dug up yesterday and hooked up to an external display. The display on the laptop doesn't display anything except some vertical lines.
When I attach an external display it boots to the external screen just fine. Is there any guarentee that it is only the disply and nothing to do with the motherboard?
I would replace the display and get it working if I could reasonably assume it is only the display. Anyone with experience in this area you're input is well appreciated.

I'd say "no guarantee". Problem could be in the panel, the ribbon cable and/or the motherboard. In order to figure it out, you'd have to replace each of them with known good units. The easiest thing to do if you have another (working) T30 would be to swap the entire lid assembly (panel and cable) and see if the problem follows the lid.
