Broadcom Wireless Network Utility can't connect hidden SSID

#1 Post by fefrie » Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:30 am

Hi all, still lurking, and the T23 is still running. My other laptop pooped out (Asus Z71v) and this has been my daily runner since last christmas.

It's a bit of a drag, but on the same note, it still surfs 70% of the internet adequately. Plus the compact size is nice, although I do miss the 1680 1024 screen :(

I'm running the broadcom wireless network utility, since i've upgraded the wireless card, and it's been pretty flawless untill this point, where I need to connect to the work network.

There is no password needed to connect to the SSID, however, the SSID is hidden. I've already configured the SSID in the Preferred Networks Category, and rebooted, but it won't connect.

Any ideas for a work around?

Thanks all

Check if it's transmitting in the B or G band.
Install Netstumbler from http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/
If that doesn't find your network, you're in trouble!

It picks up my home network fine, it picks up coffee shop networks just fine too.

This is the only case where the ssid is hidden. Typically when scanning for networks, the network MAC id would show up, then I would just connect to that network using the SSID that I would already know.

If done this with all my wireless USB adaptors for other computers on the network using this technique, but for some reason, I cant with laptop. Could it be the card, driver, or the utility? I've gone and manually disabled the broadcom utility, and tried to manually configure through the network connections manager, but to no avail.

If it can't pick up on it now, I'm pretty sure that net stumbler couldn't either?

Which wifi card model do you have, and which Broadcom util are you using?
I use a BCM94306 wifi card (B/G) in my T23, and the matching DELL drivers and utility. No problems.

Small but significant difference: you use a BCM4306 card, mine is a BCM94306
Dell drivers: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/d ... rid=266693
