Possible to swap 14" LCD between T23 and R40?

Does anybody know if it is possible to swap a 14" XGA T23 display into an R40 system? I have an R40 (2683-DU1) that I'm working on that has a cracked LCD and was wondering if it could be exchanged with one from a donor T23. Don't know yet exactly what panel is in the R40; the HMM reports four different FRUs.

My guess would be "yes"...but am not sure. In the meantime, why don't you do a parts lookup on that R40 and see where that gets you?

Thanks George... the FRU is 11P8364 (92P6665), a Samsung display. From what I see on eBay, several sellers are offering various display which they say fits R40, T22, T23, R32, so I'm hoping that this is the case. I still have to tear down the lid assembly and check the LCD connector.

Googling found that an A20 screen would work.

Given the rest of the FRUs, my assumption is that even if a T2x LCD doesn't fit, A3x 14" will...not too many machines utilized 14" DBU LCDs, not even in IBM's heyday...

Update us with results once you find out what's what, please...I'm being very curious here...and no, I don't have a project R40 sitting and waiting...

I have this in my LCD info-base:
The T22/T23 XGA LCD by IDTech, P/N 07K8413, FRU 07K8440, Idtech No. ITXG76H, is also used in the R32 / R40.
Therefor one can assume that others (XGA at least) from the T2x series will also fit.

Opened the system up and I find a Samsung LTN141XF-L01 (IBM P/N 92P6665, FRU 11P8364), which appears to be the same type of panel that people have said is in their T23 systems. So, I'll have to double check that the connector on the back side of the panel matches what I find in my T23 spares and then it's swapping time .

Located a T22 (2647-8CU) in my dungeon . Screen is nice and bright without any apparent defects so I think that this will be the donor. Parts lookup isn't available for this old of a system so I won't know what's in the lid until I pull the panel out. I come to find out that most of my T23 spares are SXGA+ or have CCFL issues.

Aww, in my rush to give you the match-info, I overlooked that Samsung:
T22/T23 XGA LCD by Samsung, P/N 46L2293, FRU 46L2292, Samsung No. LTN141XF-L01, is also used in the R32 / R40.
There's another one that will work (at least connector-wise):
There's a pin-match in the T2x XGA series for a Samsung LT141X2-124 that's used in the Apple Powerbook G3.
However, this LCD is about twice as thick as the standard T2x LCDs. Use as e.g. photo frame or test bench.

Here's the final result: Removed the panel from the T22. There was an LG LP141X10 (IBM P/N 11P8240 FRU 11P8241) that fits inside the R40's lid without any problems. The connector was in the same spot and so were the mounting screws. Didn't measure the thickness of the displays but the LCD bezel fits perfectly. Brightness appears to be the same from when it was in the T22 lid which should mean that the inverters are a close enough match.

Good to know, that makes LG, Samsung and IDTech (XGA) screens compatible between T2x and R32/R40.
Probably the Hyundai and DBU screens will also be compatible.

Wish I had seen this sooner, Ray. I am using a T2x LCD in the R40 that I am typing on right now. I believe I even posted about it here in the forum. Will look for it...

Thanks for the (belated) info anyway! Also in that thread, sjthinkpader referenced a ThinkWiki page which lists the LP141X10 panel I used as being in T20-T23 and R40. During my search in the archives here, I was looking for "T23 T40" along with "swap" or "exchange" so I didn't see that thread. Will have to add "interchangeable" and "transplant" to my list of synonyms .
