T30 memory

#1 Post by eddie350 » Tue Nov 10, 2009 11:48 am

I have a T30 2366B1U that I would like to add more memory. IBM says 1g max, but I have been told it can handle 2gs. Could someone tell me which is true? Thanks in advance.

I used to own an T30 (miss it) and the answer is- YES.

It will take a 1gb stick of PC 2100 or 2700 DDR RAM in each slot. I'm not sure if a BIOS upgrade was needed but someone else will most likely chime in here in a minute.

If you have the stock HDD then I suggest a faster 5400 or 7200 also. The combination of the faster HDD and more RAM will certainly make a noticeable difference :)

Yes, absolutely. I put a gig and half in mine (after I got the dreaded memory slot fix) and always - always...... add 7200rpm drive to all my TP's. With Ram and a decent HDD, you will have a great running machine. I carried mine in the field for over a year with no fails. Don't remember if I HAD to update the bios for the extra ram, I just keep it updated as a rule.

The sweet spot for the RAM appears to be 1.25 to 1.5 gig. More does not seem to make as big a difference as the jump to just over 1 gig. There is a huge improvement in the jump from 4200rpm to 5400rpm HDD. All of my T30's and A31p's have at least 1.25 gig of memory. My custom machines have the 7200rpm HDD, but everything else is 5400rpm, and they all get the job done.
